We visited three Château's in the South of France on todays tour, about 180km's from Paris. As such we had another early start, having to get out of the hotel and to the meeting place before 7AM, and as we'd had a late night with Disneyland yesterday, we both were slow to start off this morning.
The first Château was Chambord which was a large Castle. It's still undergoing reconstruction in sections so we didn't get to see the full area, however the staircases were designed by Leonardo Da Vinchi in the time he was in Paris. Built around 1519 for King Frances the 1st, as his hunting lodge. Apparently he spent a total of six weeks during his reign there, but we unfortunately had lss time to take these pictures.
The second Château was Cheverny, made famous by the Tin Tin graphic novels. It had a great presentation for such an old building, built in the 13th century, and we snapped these photos from it.
We stopped for lunch at this stage, at St. Hubert's Restuarant. I think this was a last minute booking as the tour guide originally said we were booked somewhere else near the Château. If it was, they did a great job is preparing the 20 meals in such a hurry; we ate and had a coffee outside before it was time to go on to the next Château.
Château Chenonceau, also known as Le Château des Dames, for the three famous women who lived there, was a spectacular castle, built upon the river Cher, the place was grandoise and we got these photos in our free time there.
We left the last of the Château's around 4.30PM, expecting a three and a half hour drive back to Paris, however this was elongated by a traffic jam caused by an accident along the route we were taking. We arrived back late and caught the Metro back to the nearest station to our hotel, where we revieved the pictures and reflected on the long day that had just passed.
Fortunately tomorrow we have a free and easy day so we'll probably attempt to visit The Louve, then we have one more day in Paris before we train to Lucerne in Switzerland.
